Legal Status of Mammoth Ivory & Fossil Materials

Under U.S. federal law, mammoth ivory and fossilized mammoth materials are generally legal to own, sell, and use because mammoths have been extinct for millennia and are not protected under modern endangered species laws.

However, certain state-level regulations restrict, prohibit, or regulate the trade and sale of fossil ivory (including mammoth tusk and teeth), regardless of its federally legal status. These regulations vary by state and may impact where and how products containing fossil mammoth material can be offered, sold, or shipped.

States with Known Restrictions or Bans on Mammoth Ivory Trade

The following states currently have laws that may restrict or prohibit the commercial trade of fossil mammoth ivory, including knives or other products that incorporate it:

  • California — prohibits trade in knives with mammoth ivory as well as raw mammoth ivory

  • Hawaii — prohibits trade in knives with fossil mammoth ivory and raw fossil mammoth ivory

  • Illinois — prohibits trade in knives with fossil mammoth ivory and raw fossil mammoth ivory

  • New Jersey — prohibits trade in knives with fossil mammoth ivory and raw fossil mammoth ivory

  • New York — prohibits trade in knives with fossil mammoth ivory and raw fossil mammoth ivory

State regulations may also overreach or expand beyond these, and additional states could adopt similar laws over time. Always confirm current requirements with local authorities before selling into or shipping products containing fossil mammoth ivory to or through these states.

No animals are harvested, harmed, or slain for the purpose of obtaining antlers or horns used in our products.

The antlers utilized are naturally shed materials or obtained from lawful, ethical suppliers that adhere to wildlife conservation standards. Our craftsmanship reflects a deep respect for wildlife, nature, and responsible stewardship.
